Zoom, the trend team of munichfabricstart – pre collections, reveals all: Joachim Baumgartner unveils his personal highlights for the 2011 S/S season. “For this season I like the phrase “Quiet is the new loud”! For me flowing lightness is the key fabric feature of the season – but also of major thematic importance since this ease adds new, authentic verve to the collections. Matching this, of course, is silk in crêpe de chine, muslin or voile. (Silk is among the most striking trends. There are so many silk items on offer you could be forgiven for thinking raw material prices had gone down.) Also perfect is jersey in all versions. In terms of colour various white shades are important for me. Pure freshness. They team with very soft pastel shades or skin tones that exude noblesse with fragility. For the men’s world fabrics are consistently classic and down-to-earth. In the casual segment colours are very washed down and the mid tones seem almost covered in a grey veil. Technical fabrics are inspired by a lagoon setting in wet-looks and aquatic green and blue tones.”
“The light weight also plays a role for denim. In chill-out beach settings it comes in loose fits and perfectly suits soft blends in cotton with linen or hemp. Yarns such as Tencel/ viscose make the touch softer and more flowing. Midsummer colours are washed-down and therefore lower in intensity. Crossdyed or printed colours look very authentic. Pressed and slightly battered pleats and speckles of bleach make for “lived-in” looks. A grainy appearance comes care of sportswear fabrics reminiscent of used surf sails bleached by the sun and seawater.”
“As for our new products, we are noticing great demand for extremely compact cloth, in different or new colours, either rigid or as super-stretch. The trend towards light weights continues to be strong, especially when it comes to highly elastic materials. In this family of fabrics we have developed a series of two-way stretches with T400 and Lycra. Genuine indigo blue and blue/black dyes are the new colour themes. For the highend market we have invested in a series of fabrics in Pima cotton. A new range of coloured canvas is cautiously combined with chinos and workwear themes. Red Selvedge Denims and purely organic cottons complete our new portfolio.”
“Leather look denims are currently the top theme. To cater to this ISKO™ is now offering the denim fabric brand JEGGINGS™. This is the first really super lightweight denim fabric weighing under 7oz – making it ideal for summer and an absolute innovation because achieving a leather look is extremely difficult. However, JEGGINGS™ is not a coating but a special denim finish that provides a leather look that still feels like cotton when you wear and touch it. JEGGINGS™ is available in various colours and finishes such as the exclusive Spectra™ by İSKO™ - for a leather appearance or the classic indigo look. Thanks to LYCRA® fibres the fabric provides a perfect fit without being too tight. It feels like a “second skin”, highlights feminine curves and has a slimming effect making it suitable not only for denim but also for the RTW segment in general.”
