Billie van Katwijk is fascinated by the cycles of nature, and thinks the idea of “waste” is an outdated concept. She transforms materials perceived as useless or unwanted to new products by material research, experimental and conceptual design. Together with Alissa Rees she experiments with flowers and the beauty of transience. Using the force of the hammer, they imprint flowers into fabric to extend their life just a bit longer. The rather brutal method of hitting the flowers produces unexpected forms and patterns; however, these patterns will slowly fade away. Maybe then it is time to let it go.
