Textiles are everywhere – How to detoxify textiles and thus our lives
Renana Krebs (Algaeing)
Textiles are all around us, and with them, thousands of chemicals. The latest data shows that 20% of the world’s freshwater, including harsh chemicals, is polluted by dyeing and printing processes. What’s more, when consumers wear textiles colored with these dyes, 10% of these chemicals are then transmitted into our bodies according to the CDC. But what if it could be different?
What if textiles could actually be packed with botanical benefits instead of harmful chemicals? That’s why we set out to develop a clean solution that not only removes toxic chemicals all across the supply chain, but a solution that is planet-positive, human-kind, and with the ability to scale.
We believe that detoxifying textiles is not just about the manufacturing value chain, it’s about each and every one of us that comes in constant contact with textiles every single day. Detoxifying textiles means detoxifying our lives. Let's detoxify the textile industry together!

Decarbonizing Denim: The Denim Supply Chain Speaks Up
Kim van der Weerd (Transformers Foundation, Moderation), Maria Cristina Pavarini (The SPIN OFF)
Meaningful decarbonization action requires putting some hard questions on the table. For instance, does it make sense to push all companies into setting science-based targets if those companies do not have access to renewables or have high thermal energy requirements? What is the most effective way to distribute responsibility for a collective goal to individual companies? How do we do this in a way that’s also equitable? How could “Global North” legislation more effectively support denim suppliers with their decarbonization?
This candid conversation will explore the critical ethical questions needed to unlock meaningful decarbonization action. Kim is the Intelligence Director of the Transformers Foundation and co-author of their forthcoming research report on the barriers to denim’s decarbonization. She has also facilitated high-level workshops for the UN Fashion Charter related to decarbonization and has hosted a series of private Supplier-Meet-Ups focused on decarbonization.
