As one of the leading European textile trade shows, twice a year MUNICH FABRIC START presents a qualitative portfolio of international fabrics and accessories manufacturers showcasing their newest developments and innovations in Munich to up to 15,000 visitors.
Around 900 manufacturers from 43 countries showcase over 1,100 collections in a comprehensive range of textiles, accessories, finishings and sourcing solutions as well as offering specialist information and inspiration, making MUNICH FABRIC START an international business platform in a unique trade fair format. Designers, product managers and buyers work efficiently and with ease in the professional working atmosphere, exclusive event program and full range of specialist information and inspiration that attracts up to 15,000 trade visitors to Munich every season.

This talk shows how a Fraunhofer research approach was transformed into a market-ready technology for brand protection. It introduces the core idea of ORIGINAL-ID: a material-based fingerprint combined with a QR code that enables item-level authentication without chips, NFC, blockchain, or changes to existing production processes. Finally, it explains how brands can use ORIGINAL-ID as a simple, scalable solution to protect products against counterfeiting, verified instantly with a standard smartphone.

The word is shaken up and in turmoil. The tension is palpable as search for meaning in an era of uncertainty. It’s not all our fault but part of it is. We voted, we decided, we wanted, we desired… But do we actually know what we want?
Designers have always been taught to know their customer and what they want. But is that true anymore? From the post-Covid collections to beige families, there has been a decided lack of design and indecision.
Enough! Companies need to reorganize themselves and find a new level of originality and personality. They need to move beyond status to find relevance. They need to find new ways of communicating and transporting ideas beyond the influencers and pop ups that have dominated the market pre- and immediately post Covid. They need to foster a ‘family’ feeling (remember the tribes of the 1990s) where they can communicate directly with those who understand them.
